Studio Lighting Workshop | Efran Beltran | Photo Studio Six

Last Sunday I was very fortunate to be part of an awesome studio lighting workshop organized by Nancy Ramos. I heard about this workshop a few weeks back, but it was not until the last minute that I decided I must not miss this great opportunity and kick myself out of bed to attend this. It was a tough morning at first, I was so burnt out after a 12 hours wedding the day before, but as soon as I got to Photo Studio Six, a stream of Red Bull like energy was suddenly injected to me from no where, I know I made the right choice.

Efren Beltran, is an experienced High Fashion Photographer based in Southern California. His work is unique, yet edge. It is truly a great learning experience to shoot hands-on with Efren to see how he combines the use of shadow and light to create dynamic images that pops. You definitely want to take sometime to check out his website, I guarantee it will WOW you.

Special thanks to:
The two awesome models
Makeup Artist: Dalia Garcia
Photographer: Mark Rosales for bring extra Pocket Wizards for me and saving me a front row seat. Without the PW, I would not have got the shots here.
Ricardo Barrera for lending me his lens for awhile, I should have brought mines instead of just a 50mm.

Chelsea Tadros | LA Shoot This | Snow Creek Park

This is the 3rd and last part of the LA Shoot This event. It’s getting dark and the sun is setting quick. We have to work quick to get a few shots in before it’s all dark. We had Greg Bumatay in this group, giving guidance to the group on what we should look out for and how we should be composition the image. Greg was really helpful, he walked around and check on the results we got on the camera, and gave us advises on what could be done better. What’s better than having immediate feedback? Thanks Greg. Here we have Chelsea Tadros as the model, she probably was really confused with all the shout outs “Chelsea, look here”, “Chelsea, look at me”, “Chelsea, look to your right”, “Chelsea, look to your left”. Everyone wants her to do something different, and with 15+ of us shooting at the same time, you know what’s going to happen.

Amanda Goraleski + Rio Wilhelmi | LA Shoot This | Snow Creek Park

This is the 2nd part of the LA Shoot This event at the Snow Creek Park. In this group, we have Chris Diset to show us the Lumodi Beauty Dish. The Lumodi soften the light from the flashes and gives it a very natural look, it will definitely be something that I will get in future. Chris also showed us an amazing location across the street from the park, a wet and nasty tunnel. Thanks to our hot couple, Amanda Goraleski and Rio Wihelmi, they didn’t mind the crazy idea in shooting in the tunnel and they did a lot more than what we could ask for. The set is steaming with all those sexy poses, and I got out with spider web all over my head and clothes, but its well worth it.

Mera Zero | LA Shoot This | Snow Creek Park

Last Sunday I went to Snow Creek Park to attend the LA Shoot This event with the FSF First Shots Fired crew and Nevin. We got to learn from amazing speakers like Greg Bumatay on composition and Kerry Garrison on wireless flashes.

A very special thank you to the event sponsor Canvas on Demand and organizer Joelle Leder for making this event happen.

Michelle Cheng, Frank Chen, Shirley Vazquez, Shannon Ely, Katie M & team

I got to shoot 3 different groups of awesome models, so I will be doing a feature for each in the next couple days. Stay tuned.

First up: Mera Zero

I can’t resist myself shooting a closeup of Mera’s amazing blue eyes.

These following 2 images are part of the story telling series that Greg wanted us to perceive that Mera is looking for her lost dog.

Gateway Multimedia Initiative | Los Angeles Event Photography

Venue: Gateway Christian Church

Last weekend, I was honored to be invited by Nevin Wong to shoot a classical music concert, Gateway Multimedia Initiative. Gateway Initiative is a platform for artists from multiple disciplines to forge collaborative works through innovative programming. Those enlisted include percussionist Yuri Inoo, marimbist Naoko Takada (from Young Concert Artist), flutist Angela Rowland (Kansas City), soprano Courtney Huffman (Boston, via video), poet Nicky Schildkraut and designer Gino Ng (New York). This adventurous program features contemporary works by Chan, Dahl, Loeb, Psathas, Sejourne and Zivkovic. Poet Nicky Schildkraut will present her new Subaltern serial poem by incorporating reading and projection.

Alan Chan, the mastermind behind this. His music has been recognized with honors from ASCAP, Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI), the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH), Percussive Arts Society, among others. His works have been performed in music festivals such as June in Buffalo, Imagine Festival, Musica Danubiana (Slovenia), International Jazz Composers’ Symposium and various SCI conferences. His first percussion ensemble piece, metal…stone…being…cracked (2001/02) has received performances more than ten times in the United States and in Europe.

Alan and a few other performers are all from USC. Go Trojans!!!!
